Mamaku or Black Tree Fern |
|
Family: Cyatheaceae Genus: Cyathea medullaris |
|
The tallest and fastest growing New Zealand tree fern. It can grow to 20 meters tall. It has a black trunk with very large fronds 2-6 meters long. A dramatic specimen plant that does not tolerate colder temperatures as well as some of the other varieties. It easily grows in a warmer climate. It’s new fronds begin as tight black
“curls”, and unfurl to produce a stunning, large umbrella canopy, with
fronds reaching up to 6m in length. |
