The Hokianga Location

The place is situated on the North Island of New Zealand in the Hokianga Harbour. This area is as well called the winterless North.

The nearest town is Horeke on the South side of the harbour. The place was called Wairere in the olden days. It was once one of the oldest settlements of New Zealand.

This is the 'farm' with its three blocks. Total area 144 ha (356 acres). About 80 ha (200 acres) fenced and in grass.  The back block is native bush, protected by the Resource Management Act.

Some further information about the location:

• The primary school is in Horeke, the intermediate school and the college are in Okaihau, 30 km from Horeke towards the center of the island.
• The local administration for Hokianga is in Kaikohe (Far North District Council) 33 km from Horeke.
• The area hospital is in Rawene,  36 km from the homestead and can be reached within 30 minutes. The local health service is completely free of charge and a doctor is available once a week, on Wednesdays, at the Horeke Clinic. The system is operated by the Hokianga Health Trust, which is unique for New Zealand.
• Post can be sent an received at the Horeke store. It is a postal delivery center where courier parcels are delivered as well. The address is : Name, PDC, Horeke 0451.
• Shopping can be done in Kaikohe (33 km). Kaikohe is THE HUB OF THE NORTH. All major banks, the Warehouse and other important outlets are represented there. Horeke has a little shop for daily necessities and the news papers.
